The Koru Games Dodgeball competition will be played under the folllowing rules:

1. The game starts with 6 balls, on the centre line. Players start behind the end line and at the opening rush, each team retrieves the balls to their right on the centre line. The ball must be taken behind the attack line before it can be thrown.
2. The object of the game is to eliminate the opposing players by getting them OUT. You are out if: The ball hits you below the shoulders. You step over the sideline or the centreline. You throw a live ball and it is caught by your opponent.
3. You can block a thrown ball with a held ball but if you drop the blocking ball or the thrown ball still ends up hitting your body, you are out.
4. A ball is dead when it hits the ground. If it hits another player it is still alive until it hits the ground. So 1 ball can get 2 or more players. Dead balls are rolled over immediately to the other team.
   
5. Teams have 10 seconds to throw a ball. If the team has not thrown 1 ball after the ref has counted down then all balls must be rolled over. The team with the most balls is the team that must throw. If both teams have the same amount of balls the team with the most players throws. If still same amount of balls and same amount of players the team that last recieved a ball must throw.
   
6. When you get out, stand on the sideline in the order you got out. If a teammate catches a ball, you can return to the court from the backline.

7. If the game comes down to 1 player on each team, they have 10 seconds to hit each other out. After this time, the neutral zone is dissolved and the players may move about freely on the court. The last player to get their opponent out wins.

Boys and Girls tournaments will be played separately. 

Each school can only enter one team in each competition. If you have additional teams wanting to play, please add them to the waitlist form and we will be in contact once registrations close if there are spaces available in that competition.

The Dodgeball tournament has separate boys and girls competitions.

Competition Memo (All sports)

The Dodgeball tournament will be played with 7 inch foam dodgeballs. They are tiger skin on the outside with foam inside. 

All equipment will be provided by the Selwyn Sports Trust. 

We are committed to using this tournament as a development for youth officials.  Each team will need their own referee and whistle, we encourage you to use senior student referees from your School or a Highschool near you.  Otherwise a parent/caregiver/coach will be great. Upskilling can happen prior to the tournament for those that need it.

All teams/schools need to have first aid support onsite.

Habit Health will be at the Lincoln University Hub to support competitors throughout the Games.
